“Real People Real Talk” is a series that i’m starting to get to know people you follow and admire, in depth. Regarding several topics like fashion, beauty and lifestyle. In the end there will be a whishlist and a city Guide.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
Hi, I’m Michelle Lin — originally from Taiwan, spent four wonderful years in the UK, and now calling sunny Spain home. I love capturing the magic of everyday moments through my analog lens, sharing my passion for outfits, travel, and slow, intentional living.
How would you describe your style? What’s your style motto?
I’d say my style leans toward timeless and understated, with a focus on quality over quantity. I love pieces that feel effortless but still intentional—neutral tones, clean lines, and a touch of vintage here and there. It’s less about trends and more about wearing what feels like me, whether I’m exploring a new city or capturing a quiet moment on film.
Style motto: Timelessness, simplicity, and staying true to myself over being trendy—always.
What are your key wardrobe pieces?
A crisp white shirt in different fabrics, classic tank tops, straight-leg jeans, tailored trousers, and a great trench coat.
How does your Monday-to-Friday uniform look?
It really varies depending on my mood, but lately, I’ve been reaching for a tank top (loving The Slow Label basics right now), vintage Levi’s jeans, and a lightweight knit from Almada Label or Soft Goat Cashmere.
Do you plan your looks ahead?
Sometimes I do—especially for trips. Otherwise, I just grab whatever feels right from my wardrobe that day.
What are your favorite accessories at the moment?
Definitely the mini Baignoire watch and the small Juste un Clou bracelet from Cartier (I’m a Cartier girl). I also love a good pair of hoops—Lie Studio makes some of my favorites.
What would you be doing for a living if you weren’t working in fashion?
I’d probably be a barista, running a cosy little café by the beach—somewhere warm, where the mornings smell like fresh coffee and sea breeze.
Either that or a professional luxury hotel bed critic—I can be very picky with beds, lol.
Where do you find your creative inspiration?
Literally anywhere in life. It could be a stylish grandma walking past or an old cabin in the woods.
If you could swap wardrobes with anyone for a week, who would it be and why?
The Olsen twins or Sarah-Linh Tran—both have such an effortless yet elevated style that I admire.
Which living person’s style do you most admire?
Sarah-Linh Tran, Zoë Kravitz, and Caroline de Maigret. All effortlessly cool and true to themselves.
If you could change one thing about your wardrobe, what would it be?
I might have too many wide-leg trousers... I'd probably dial that back a little!
What’s your go-to scent?
Byredo’s Desert Dawn and Gaiac 10 from Le Labo.
Do you like fashion week? Why or why not?
Most of the time—yes! It’s always great to catch up with friends and meet the amazing people behind the brands. That said, my social battery needs recharging after—socialising in your second language isn’t always easy. :))
How do you deal with fashion events?
(Still figuring this one out! Haha. Depends on the vibe and energy of the event, really.)
What is the worst outfit you’ve ever worn?
HAHAHAHA. I honestly can’t remember, but I do recall being semi-forced into a pale blue dress years ago. It was not my vibe.
What would someone never guess about you?
My voice actually changes depending on the language I speak—and sometimes, it feels like I have a slightly different personality in each one. I wish I were as funny in English as I am in Mandarin. :))
What’s a self-care ritual you swear by to recharge?
A long walk or hike in nature.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
Hopefully living in my dream house somewhere warm and sunny!
What’s the last movie, TV series, or book you enjoyed?
I just finished Severance—LOVED IT.
What’s your favorite place you’ve traveled to so far?
Sri Lanka and India—both were unforgettable and truly magical.
